General Description :
The heart of any SPV system is the Solar Cell, a semiconductor (silicon) device,which when exposed to sunlight produces DC Electricity. A number of suchsolar cells are interconnected in series combination and sealed with atoughened and highly transparent front glass cover to form a solar photovoltaicmodule. A number of these modules, in turn, are again suitably interconnected and mounted on metal structure form a SPV Panel.
Negligible Low maintenance lead acid battery/Sealed maintenance free batteriesare used in Solar LED power street lighting systems for the back-up purpose. The SPV array converts solar energy (Sun light) directly into DC electricity. Theelectrical energy so generated, charges a storage battery through electronicscontrols. The stored energy in the battery is used to power the LED lightingsystem in night times.
Electronic control sub-systems are generally used in the SPV power system for ensuring trouble-free, long life operation of the Battery Bank. The system can be designed in such a way as to Power LED lighting system at the desired voltage, using electronic controls designed and adjusted for the specific service.
The engineering design and integration of an SPV system arecomplex tasks. Due tothe daily and seasonal variation of sunlight and theambient temperature, the availability of the energy from the sun is timedependent. The Solar LED power street lighting system works as soon as thesun rises is the morning, photovoltaic cells start generating electric power. Thiselectric power is stored in the battery through charge controller. As the sun setsin the evening, the photovoltaic cells stop power generation. In that time theLED power street lighting system is Automatically ON. The electric powerstored in the battery is used for lighting during night. Such complexitiesrelating to the supply and demand on the energy result in highly sophisticatedSPV system design. SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC MODULE:
Solar Photovoltaic power source is an appropriate means to be deployed forLED powering street lighting systems. The designed SPV power source issuitable for 12 hours operation solar power LED street lighting system.The Solar power LED street lighting system powered by SPV power sourceoperates on input voltage of 12V to 18V DC. This SPV Module comprises of 36nos. single crystal or polycrystalline silicon solar cells, connected in series.

MODULE MOUNTING STRUCTURE:
The SPV Modules are mounted on a specially designed angle structure withcorrosion resistant paint. The modules structure is suitable to adjust themodule tilt angle from 0 to 45. The solar module should be installed at 15 to20 towards south face. This structure is suitable for mounting of the SEACON (SEABL) make solar module.

CHARGE CONTROL UNIT:
The function of the Charge Control Unit is to charge Battery as well as protectbattery from over charge, deep discharge, and short circuit. Over Charging anddrainage of the Battery beyond specified level, is detrimental to the life of theBattery.

BATTERY
The Battery 12V is suitable solar power LED street lighting system for a LEDcapacity of 30W. The Battery has high AH charge - discharge efficiency, low self-discharge rates, nine months topping-up frequency and long life. It is protectedthat the battery is to be installed on MS powder coated Battery box has pilfer proof Lock & Key arrangement through special key.

INSTALLATION:
The installation of Solar Power Street light involves the following steps:

  • Dig the hole minimum 4feet
  • Civil foundation job
  • Assembly and fixing of solar module on top of M.S.Pole with south face.(The directions North-South to be made for fixing the SPV module structure).
  • Assembly and fixing LED luminary
  • Installation and commissioning of the Battery
  • Electrical connections

OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE:
OPERATION:
Operation of the solar power LED Street light is very simple. Once thesystem is installed, the Green LED will glow during day time and willindicate that the power is available for charging the Battery from SPV panel.The systems will Automatically ON at sun-set & Automatically OFF at sunrise.If the Red LED is glowing and the load will disconnected as long asBattery low LED is glowing.
MAINTENANCE:
In general the SPV power source for Solar LED Street lighting systems willnot require much maintenance. However, the following minimum activitiesare recommended for smooth operation of the system:

  • Visual inspection of the modules daily for any accumulated dirt excretes/dropouts from birds etc., and cleaning the surface of the surface of the solar modules.
  • Checking the electrical connections every two months
  • Checking the batteries for the state of charge (SOC) level by using voltmeter
  • Examine wiring connections for corrosion and looseness and set right the same.
  • Fill the distilled water every 6-9 months, when required.

BENEFITS OF LED LIGHTING SYSTEM:
At present, conventional type luminary are being provided for the street lightand outdoor lighting. By introduction of White High Power Light Emitting Diode(LED) having more than 50,000 working hours, it is possible to use LED lampsin place of existing fluorescent, Sodium vapour/Mercury vapour and Metal Halide lamps, LED lights are almost maintenance free and as a result, totalpower saving is expected to be more than 50%.Keeping in view of the energyconservation, increased life and recurring savings on account of maintenance,use of environmental friendly energy efficient LED based luminary is beingconsidered for street light and out door lighting.

SCOPE:
The scope includes design, development, manufacturing, testing and energy efficient LED luminary complete with all accessories, LED lamps with suitablecurrent control driver circuit including mounting arrangement for street light.The luminary shall be suitable for rugged service under the operational and environmental conditions encountered during service.

High power and high efficient LED's suitable for following features shall be used:

  1. The efficiency of the LED lamps at 110C Junction temperature shall be more than 80%
  2. The working life of the lamp at junction temperature of 110C for 350mAcurrent shall be more than 50,000 hours of accumulative operation andshall be suitable continuous operation of 12 hours per day.
  3. Adequate heat sink with proper thermal management shall provide.
  4. Color temperature of the proposed white color LED shall be 6500K.
  5. Minimum view angle of the LED shall be 120
  6. The out put of LED shall be more than 100 lumen per watt at minimaloperating current and shall ensure guaranteed operation life 50,000burning hours with controlled junction temperature of 110C.
  7. Efficiency of driver electronics shall be more than 85%.
  8. Power factor of complete fitting shall be more than 0.95.
  9. Thermal management shall be in such a way that LED junctiontemperature shall not go beyond 80C.
  10. LED fixing arrangement - Mounted on metal core PCB fixed to aluminium die-cast body.
  11. LED Fixture: Aluminium fixture with acrylic cover with IP 65 protection.
  12. LED shall be OSRAM/Cree/Nichia

GUARANTEE/WARRANTY:

  1. Entire Solar lighting system (Including battery) - two years from the dateof supply.
